As the primary sponsor of Take Our Children to Work Day, the DCWC organizes events within the County government. This event, originally conceived of as “Take Our Daughters to Work Day” by the Ms. Foundation in 1992, was intended to encourage girls’ curiosity and an interest in the types of employment that might otherwise have seemed impossible to them. The program, as expanded, still has the same goal, intending to motivate and inspire children to achieve their goals, and understand a little bit of what their parents do every day. This day is celebrated across the country on the fourth Thursday of April each year.
The Delaware County Women’s Commission in collaboration with County Office of Services for the Aging holds an event for a half-day at the Delaware County government center.
The children are given tours of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Department, Voter Registration, the Election Bureau, Adult Probation, and the Court House, and enjoy presentations from a judge, County Council member and others.
